Belly Dancing


"Belly dancing" has many other names like oriental dance and in many Arabic speaking countries it's known as "Raqis AI Sharqi", in which it means the dance of eastern region. In the Middle Easter, people usually dance for a desire and in occasions such as weddings, the birth of a child, festivals, and other events that bring people together to party. The dance is usually taught to girls from childhood to strengthen their abdominal muscles. Some movements Incorporate many techniques from different parts of the Middle East: Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq. and Morocco to name a Few. Each country has added some movements into the dance, and modifications were made within time. Cairo and Beirut emerged to be an important cultural centers In the Arabic world in belly dancing. As what was cited, One theory claims that belly dancing was originally from Ancient Babylon in southern Iraq. Adnanite Arabs introduced belly dancing and drumming. Before the arrival of Islam the tradition was for women to dance at social gatherings, while the men played the drums.
